Mavromatakis – Mitera is a private educational initiative in the town of Chania. We began operating as an educational institution in 1981 with the establishment of the infant and nursery school Mitera (which means Mother in Greek). Today, apart from the Infant and Nursery School, we operate a Kindergarten, Elementary School and the Mavromatakis Children’s Swimming Center.
The aim of the management and staff of the institution is to create a school environment that will help students to grow both educationally, socially and culturally. Through diverse stimuli and the appropriate animation students will have the opportunity to cooperate and participate in activities and innovative projects, realising that a school is somewhere where we can have fun through learning
OUR VISION
In a world that is constantly changing, it is necessary to properly prepare the next generations in order to meet the challenges they will face in the future. The preparation should begin from an early age with appropriate education, so that each child, with a solid foundation as a starting point, can develop his/ her personality and acquire knowledge and skills, according to the requirements of the 21st century. That is why our vision as a school is to educate capable and responsible citizens of the world, the citizens of tomorrow, who will be able to change the world for the better.
OUR MISSION
In this context, we define the mission of the school as that to educate our students in an experiential and pleasant way according to the principles of bilingual education (Greek and English). We attempt to cultivate a multicultural, inclusive learning environment staffed by qualified like-minded educators and we take care of their professional development according to the modern principles of pedagogical science.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
At our school, the teaching approach is student- centered and teaching is conducted in a playful and experiential manner. We aim for students to be happy in the school environment, developing relationships that inspire security and trust. In this way, we will achieve the development of complete personalities properly equipped to cope with the demands of society.
The school therefore continues to respond flexibly and effectively to educational and social needs by providing high-level services for the benefit of our students. We remain focused on our goals, such as:
Bilingual teaching for our students aged 3-12 with respect for the equivalence of the two languages being taught (Greek and English)
In the bilingual learning environment, our students develop a second language and at the same time develop their mother tongue in cooperation with the family
Respect for the diversity of each student’s cultural background and organization of teaching based on the pedagogical principle of inclusivity
Cultivating 21st century skills so that students are prepared to smoothly meet the demands of society as active and responsible citizens of the world
We consider the school as an extension of the family and that is why we seek close cooperation with the parents
Interaction of the school with society through the implementation of innovative European programs
The education of the students takes place in an atmosphere of love, freedom, respect for the respective rules and cooperation
Student education is facilitated through cooperative learning thus enhancing positive interactions
Expanded teaching schedule to ensure the necessary time to implement the syllabi
